The artwork «Red Man» was added to the Foundation’s collection in 2004
The sculptures, structures and installations of George Lappas (1950-2016) investigate the relationship of sculpture to its space and the communication with the viewer. “Red Man” (2004) belongs to the well-known human figures with the intense red colour that Lappas worked on after the 90s. This particular one, as all of the anthropomorphic figures of the artist, overturns the traditional statics of sculpture, as it is reminiscent of a statue but also of a mechanical construction with many possibilities of transformation. The red colour is linked foremost to human existence as it is the colour of blood and therefore the essence of life, giving the work an existential and ontological character.
