The artwork «Tree Sculpture» was added to the Foundation’s collection in 2004

Life and nature play a crucial role in the work of the artist Giorgos Gyparakis (born 1962). His works are balancing between reality and imagination, while organic forms rendered sculpturally, affect almost each and every one of the viewer’s senses. “Tree Sculpture” is part of the “Urban Oasis” installation created by Gyparakis at Monastiraki Square in the centre of Athens, in 2004. The work is representative of his interest in ecology, and it expresses the artist’s concern about global warming. Water is channelled with high pressure by a cold steam system to the stainless steel tree and, through special holes in the branches, a very fine mist is sprayed out. The sculpture can reduce the surrounding temperature by 15°C, thus communicating a strong ecological message.
