The artwork «Offering to Poseidon» was created during the group exhibition «Chilean Art Travels to Crete» in 1999
The work of Chilean sculptures Cecilia Campos (born 1947), which has been awarded and presented mainly in Chile, has a purely anthropocentric character, conceptually and morphologically. The human and biometric figures of her sculptures derive mainly from history. In “Offering to Poseidon” (1999) Campos, inspired by ancient Greek mythology, creates a minimalist work whose symmetrical shape resembles the trident of Poseidon. Placed on a pedestal, reminiscent of an altar, the marble object becomes an offering to the god of the sea, which is inextricably linked to the history of Greece and of the artist’s homeland, Chile.
