The artwork «Fruit» was presented during Yiannis Parmakelis’ solo exhibition titled «Mechanics, 1978-2006» in the summer of 2006
The work is a prominent example of the artist’s sculptural practice since 1978 and is based on a new iconographic vocabulary stemming from principles of geometry, the impeccable perfection of construction and a harmony with the surrounding space. His themes are variant, showing a particular predilection to the human figure and its morpho-plastic vocabulary. “Fruit” resembles an apple mostly because of its form. The apple, apart from essential nourishment for human survival, has obtained multiple symbolic meanings throughout human history, such as the seed of knowledge in the Garden of Eden. Thus, Parmaklis, creates a work of art which mirrors human nature.
