Share Article

The artwork «Stylite – Raised Perspective» was created during the group exhibition of contemporary Cypriot artists «Riches of Cyprus» in 1996

The artistic orientation of Charalambidis (born 1967) is strongly political and focuses on matters regarding contemporary sociopolitical reality, giving them complex overtones, which are open to multiple interpretations. The artist’s personal expressive idiom is particularly rich, due to the variety and imaginative use of techniques and artistic means. “Stylite – Raised Perspective” (1996) is characteristic of his practice. The title, as well as the individual components of the piece, make several references to the political situation of Cyprus, the artist’s homeland, and the role of the church. The elements of the installation are memory pieces which require the active participation of the viewer to reveal themselves.
