The artwork «Matter and Time» was created during the group exhibition of contemporary Cypriot artists «Riches of Cyprus» in 1996
The personal expressive idiom of Cypriot artist Nikos Kourousis is especially rich, due to the variety of techniques and artistic means he uses. For the installation “Matter and Time” (1996), the artist drew inspiration from the Greek cultural heritage and elements of nature. Matter and time, two concepts commonly found in his work, are two elements which constantly interact and thanks to which evolution and life exist. Wanting to emphasise the nuances of this relationship, and using materials inherently connected to Greek history, such as marble, Kourousis created a piece whose form changes over time through natural erosion.
