Frosso Michalea, Minotaur (1970)

Share Article

The artwork «Minotaur» is one of the earliest artworks added to the Foundation’s collection, and has been on display at the Sculpture Garden since 1970

With particular interest in morphology and abstract forms, and references to prehistoric Greek sculpture, Michalea creates a subtractive sculpture based on geometric shapes and materials such as limestone, metal and wood. Here, the Minotaur, a symbol of the history of Crete, is represented by a solid rectangular stone with a strict structure and internal discipline. As in all of her sculptural works, Michalea is trying to mix life with art and create a symbolic work, inextricably linked to the history of this place.
