Revealing connections that transcend distance
July 1999
In the summer of 1999, Minos Beach art hotel welcomed to Agios Nikolaos contemporary Chilean art. The exhibition brought together eight artists in a juxtaposition of sculpture, painting, photography, theatre, poetry and song.
The purpose of the exhibition was to demonstrate how close the cultural, political and human relations of countries that are far apart geographically can be. The venture was highly successful. The juxtaposition of Kazantzakis and Neruda, of Cretan couplets with Chilean and Latin American ballads, demonstrated to all participants and visitors that distance is an obstacle which can easily be overcome.
The cultural wealth of Crete was significantly enhanced as well: the Foundation’s art collection, which is on permanent display in the Sculpture Garden of Minos Beach art hotel, received sculptures from two renowned artists: Cecilia Campus’ Offering to Poseidon and Lily Gazafulic’s Dialogue.
